چکیده

This paper addresses the problem of the diversity of perspectives about key concepts in the enterprise of the social simulation community and, in order to deal with this difficulty, proposes a Hierarchy of Contextual Levels as a framework for social simulation modelling. The concepts of language, system, levels of systems and context are reviewed from a general systems theory and from a simulation and modelling theory perspectives. Afterwards, from this arena, issues around the work of the social simulation community are examined in order to point out some difficulties and argue about the need for an appropriate modelling framework. It is claimed that making explicit the contextual levels around simulation experiments is of a central importance because of the high level of relativity a social simulation experiment presents. The usefulness of this framework is exemplified by analyzing the context of some MABS models and by reviewing a notion of complexity .

Understanding MABS and Social Simulation: Switching Between Languages in a Hierarchy of Levels

This paper addresses the difficulties associated to the diversity of perspectives in the social and organisational simulation community, such as misunderstanding about concepts, and modelling methodologies. In order to deal with this difficulties, first, a hierarchy of languages, namely: natural language and culture, theoretical and modelling paradigm, modelling language, and simulation languag...

Examining the difficulty pathways of can-do statements from a localized version of the CEFR

The Japanese adaptation of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR-J) is a tailored version of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), designed to better meet the needs of Japanese learners of English. The CEFR-J, like the CEFR, uses illustrative  descriptors  known  as  can-do  statements,  that  describe  achievement  goals  for five  skills  (listening,  reading,  spoken ...

The Simplicity of Complex Agents A Contextual Action Framework for Computational Agents

Collective dilemmas have attracted widespread interest in several social sciences and the humanities including economics, sociology and philosophy. Since Hardin’s intuitive example of the Tragedy of the Commons, many real-world public goods dilemmas have been analysed with a wide ranging set of possible and actual solutions. The plethora of solutions to these dilemmas suggests that people make ...

Spatial Data in Land Management and Local Government

The contribution deals with the contextual design of spatial data for regional development and land management purposes. Further development of information technologies, image processing techniques and contextual knowledge-based databases, together with the geographical networks environment, will provide quite new and considerably wider possibilities of using GIS. GIS architecture is open to in...

Domain modelling with hierarchies of alternative viewpoints

Domain modelling can be used within requirements engineering to reveal the conceptual models used by the participants, and relate these to one another. However, existing elicitation techniques used in AI adopt a purely cognitive stance, in that they model a single problemsolving agent, and ignore the social and organisational context. This paper describes a framework for representing alternativ...
